Hello, and welcome to Pearch Pottery. After finishing college and
specialising in earthenware, I decided to continue my training in
Japan
. During my stay I concentrated on throwing traditional wares dating
back 800 years, fired by wood. I separately studied the art of Japanese
brush painting. This invaluable time spent in
Japan
now reflects in much of my work, and has given me a vast range of
subjects to interoperate in my work.
I have been a potter for 20 years, exhibiting work all over the
United Kingdom
, and other countries. During that time I have also published two books
"Step by Step Art School Ceramics" and "Simply Pottery". Apart from
demonstrating at various shows, I have also enjoyed teaching many
primary school children. Collections of my work have been shown and sold
on several occasions at the Royal
Academy
in London.
In my pottery I produce a range of wares, which are continually changing
and evolving. I specialise in domestic pieces such as bowls, jugs,
vases, dishes and now my small bowl which I call "jewels of desire". All
my work is functional; however each piece is an individual both in its
form and decoration.
My brushwork and ideas stem from many influences – the easy flowing and
vital brushstrokes of Japan,
my love of English country gardens; the bright colours and patterns of
Europe
. The outgoing exuberance of Australia
and aboriginal designs, have also been an inspiration to me and most
recently the wonderful patterns and colours of
Africa. My fortunate travels to other countries have
therefore played a major part in my work. Flowers are just one part of
my decorative repertoire, my interest in fish and the way they move are
replicated within my simple brushstrokes. I call my free flowing work,
"Jazz" again replicating a free and expressive style of traditional
Jazz! Other themes will come along as I continue my travels and expand
my creative experience and artistic portfolio.
My work is displayed in many galleries in the
UK
, and is currently in private collections all over the world. |
